What is it that gives an animation the 'illusion of life.'

You could say it's the pose, because the pose can tell you what the character is feeling.
You could also say it is the timing, because you can set the mood of your character through the timing.
And yet, when you watch great animation it feels like there is something more.

How do you truly become a Professional Animator?

 

This is a question that I hear all the time. We all want that feeling of sitting in the cinema with our friends, waiting for OUR name to scroll by.
Or maybe you just want to prove to your family and friends that you have what it takes to 'make it' in such a competitive industry.

 

Whatever your reasons may be, the question still remains; How do YOU become a professional animator?

How to Animate "In The Zone"

I'm sure we've all experienced what it's like to animate in the zone: We lose track of time and seem to produce the most beautiful animation with almost no conscious effort.

But how to we get into the elusive zone?
Is it just random luck?
Or can we CHOOSE when to get into the Zone?

I've studied getting "into the zone" quite extensively, and here is what I've found:

Ah, the age old question: IK, or not IK...


Really, these days this question is almost obsolete. No matter what program you use for animation,
it most likely has a switchable IK/FK solution.

Personally, I wouldn't animate without one anymore. B)
